Brooks' Birth Story

Baby Brooks finally decided to make his grand entrance into this world! I was beginning to feel like he was never going to come. He was four days late from the very latest due date they had given me (which was the twelfth) but he finally did come. Like I mentioned before, my mom had come to Utah to help me after the baby was born. When we realized he might not even get here before she went back to NC, we let her take the kids to stay with her in Mona for a bit, which gave me time to get some things done, and some time with my hubby before we became the parents of three. My mom brought the kids back on Saturday, the 13th, and planned to stay here with us before her early morning flight on Tues, the 16th. We kept waiting and thinking for sure Brooks would get here before my mom had to leave, but by Monday night I had given up hope, and we all went to bed. My mom had to leave at 5:30 the next morning. Then at 10:45 that night, I had my first contraction. I could tell this one was stronger and different, but I didn't get mine or Tyler's hopes up because I had already had so much false labor. Then ten min later another. This one hurt too. Ten min later another. Tyler and I were getting excited but I still didn't want to jump the gun and go to the hospital too early so I kept waiting. Then the next thing I knew, they were coming regularly 3-5 min apart. At that point I got worried and hoped we would be able to make it to the hospital in time. We alerted our parents, jumped in the car, and headed to the hospital. I was still really nervous that my contractions were going to stop but the kept coming and they were getting stronger. I was all checked in and into my delivery room I think by midnight. Maybe just a little later. When they checked me I was already six cm dilated! I was relieved bc I didn't want a super long labor since I wasn't going to get an epidural.
Between contractions.

From there I just breathed through the contractions. They were getting pretty strong but I felt like I was handling them well despite how painful they were. When the nurses finally left for a bit (I loved my nurses that night. They were so sweet and helpful) Tyler and I had some time to just be together and take in the whole experience. I don't want to go into a lot of detail about that because I felt like it was a super special experience for us and brought us even closer. I found that although laboring naturally was very difficult, it was just a very neat experience for Tyler and I. Dawson and Addy's births were also very special, but I think bc my body was going through everything this time, it felt so much more real. I didn't feel like I was a bystander at my baby's birth this time, or like I was being told what to do and when to do it. I just did what felt right. Around 1:30 my contractions were getting really intense so I asked to get in the water for a bit to help relieve the pain. It wasn't a birthing tub, just a smaller bathtub you could get in to help with the contractions. So after I asked my nurse checked me and I was already at a 9! There wasn't time to get in the tub anyway. With my next contraction my water broke, and from there everything seemed to go so fast but so slow at the same time. My midwife got there around then, and my pain was unbearable! The only thing that helped was Tyler holding my hand, and telling me I could do it. I may have got a little grumpy with the midwives and nurses at this point bc they were telling me to push, but pushing hurt so bad! Anyway, I made it through and at 2:50 am Tyler Brooks was born. He had a FULL  head of hair and was so cute!

It was such a relief to be done with labor! A little bit later my mom arrived with Tyler's parents (Kaitlyn stayed with Dawson and Addy). She got to see the baby for just a little bit before Tyler's parents took her to the airport. I was so happy for her that she got to be there for that.

The next morning Tyler brought the kids to meet their new brother. They were so cute with him and I just loved watching their reactions. Dawson knew exactly what was going on when he showed up, and I think Addy started to understand too, when she saw the new baby and that my belly wasn't huge anymore.

She love his hair and kept touching it.

I love how Dawson and Addy are looking at each other in this picture like "oh shoot! Our lives just changed!"

Tyler and the kids brought me flowers:)

Leaving the hospital.

Are You Kidding me, Smalls?!

Do you want to hear the latest from 'Tales of the Overdue Mom'? My midwife now has the flu. I was supposed to go in to get my membranes stripped today, and hopefully get this baby here before my mom leaves. No such luck. I am beginning to wonder if this baby is ever going to come! I hope I didn't give my midwife the flu at my appointment a few days ago. I thought I was better by then. I made an appointment for tomorrow morning to get my membranes stripped if she is back by then. I kinda doubt she will be back though if she has the same thing that my family and I had. I am pretty frustrated, but at the same time I find it quite hilarious. This nasty Summer flu is really messing with my plans!
Now what to do today? My plans were to get my membranes stripped and hopefully go into labor, ha ha. My kids are with my mom in Mona, and I don't dare go spend time down there since it's a two hour drive from my hospital, and I am three days overdue. I feel like that is just pushing my luck! I already cleaned everything yesterday after the kids left. I guess I will try to take it easy and enjoy some me time before I become the mother of three children under the age of 4!

The 4th

The 4th of July was great! I wish I would have taken more pictures, but it was about a bazillion degrees outside and I looked like I had elephantitis bc my kankles were so huge! So taking pictures was was one of the last things on my mind. I did get a few pictures of the parade that morning though.

Every 4th, This is the doughnut Dawson picks. Chocolate glazed with sprinkles.

Dawson and Addy love them some Aunt Alli and cousin Hadley.

Addy's beloved Aunt Kaitlyn. Kaitlyn paints Addy's toes which makes Addy her best friend.

We made these shirts the day before. We used pipe cleaners to make firework stamps to put on the shirts. It was easy and Dawson loved it. Addy was sick and asleep when we made them.
Later that day we went and saw Dispicable Me 2, and it was super cute. Dawson loved it and Addy even sat through the whole movie without too much squirming. Then Tyler's mom made some delicious food and we had a BBQ. After that I wasn't feeling very well. I was super swollen from the heat and being outside so much, and I was feeling pretty tired. And Addy was feeling sick again and being really clingy. Then before it was time for fireworks Addy burned two of her fingers on a sparkler. She is usually pretty tough and doesn't even cry when she gets hurt, but this time she was crying and crying and I could tell she was in a lot of pain. So I sent the boys to the fireworks and stayed with Addy. I had to hold ice on her fingers for about two hours before she finally was able fal asleep. It was a fun day, but by the time it was over I was relieved. Being nine months pregnant in the middle of Summer is not so fun! I was just happy that Dawson had a blast all day long. And I am glad that my sweet Addy is finally feeling better!

Overdue

Yup, I am two days overdue. Come on Brooks! I actually feel really good today despite my hugeness.
My mom has been in Utah for the past week, and has been staying with her family a little further South since I live with my in-laws and don't really have a place for her to stay. I know Tyler's parents would be totally willing to let her stay here, but she just has more room with her family, and I know she is excited to see them too. The plan all along when she decided to come out here for a couple of weeks was for her to keep the kids for a bit after I had the baby to give me some time to get adjusted. However this baby is not cooperating and my mom only has a week left, so today  I sent them to Mona to stay with her. She has just been dying to have them, and I figured it would give Tyler and I chance to go on a date before life gets crazy, and give me a little time to get somethings done. I really do miss them though. I always have a hard time with them being away from me.
Even though I am getting impatient for the baby to get here, I am glad he didn't come this past week because we all got so sick! The kids were throwing up over and over, and then Tyler and I, and a couple of Tyler's family members got sick. Everyone has finally gotten over it or is in the process of getting better. It was some weird flu, which I would never have thought I would have to worry about. It took Each of the kids almost a week to get over it. The first night Addy had it she was up all night and threw up probably between fifteen and twenty times! I took her to the doctor the next morning bc I thought she had gotten dehydrated but she ended up being ok. Anyway, that sickness was ruthless and I am so glad it will be over with before baby Brooks gets here!
After over a week of everyone being so sick it has been nice to have some time to get things back in order around here. It was getting so messy I could't stand it!
Heres to hoping baby Brooks decides  to grace us with his presence soon!!

Bloggin'

Can I just say that starting  a blog is one of the best things I ever did?! I love being able to document my family's life. Before I started my blog I would always feel guilty for not doing something with all the pictures I had taken of the kids, or for not writing down something funny they did or said. Below is a prime example. Before blogging, Dawson would have drawn this precious picture, and I would have felt too guilty throwing it away, but wouldn't have known what to do with it. And now, Voila! I take a picture of it, upload to my blog, and throw the actual picture away to get rid of clutter.
But really, lets talk about how adorable this picture is! Dawson has just recently started to enjoy drawing, and I just love his little blob people. Dawson told me who some of them were and so I made some captions.

Also I have a questionnaire from Father's Day that  I did't have time to post earlier. I asked Dawson a few random questions about Tyler and wrote down his answers and gave it to Tyler on Father's day.

1. What makes Dad happy? -Pictures
2.What makes Dad sad? -Saying, like idiot (We have been learning not to say naughty words lately)
3.How does Dad make you laugh? -To this question Dawson made a silly sound I cannot write
4. What is Dad's favorite thing to do? -Um, play
5. What is Dad really good at? -Exercising and riding his bike without training wheels
6. Why does Dad go to work? -To get the bills

No Shame

One night I was cleaning up after dinner, and looked out the window to see this. I guess she was tired of wearing her diaper.
