The New Digs

October 13

A couple of months ago I wrote about how we were going to move to NC. Well, scratch that. When we made that  plan, it was after Tyler’s employer told him that he could still work for their same company from NC. Then they changed their minds and told him they want him to stay in Utah to work for them so that turned all of our plans of moving to NC upside down. We were very disappointed, because that had been our plan for a while, but we are also happy to stay here because we love Utah as much as we love NC. After we got the news that we wouldn’t be able to move to NC, we started looking for places near Tyler’s office. After losing so much money when we sold our last house, we knew we didn’t want to buy yet. Not till we were absolutely sure of where we would want to stay and live long term, so we looked for rental homes, town homes, and apartments. After lots of searching, and lots of prayers to find the right place, we found it! On the way to work one day, Tyler felt he should take a different route to work, and he found a town home for rent literally across the street from his office, just on the opposite side from where he usually entered his office parking lot. Tonight is our second night here at our new place. The house is somewhat dated, but it is large, and just right for us. And you can’t beat the commute for Tyler! It is a four bed, two bath, with a main level and a basement. The kids are so excited about our new house, especially Dawson! There is a huge area downstairs where the kids can play and Dawson and Addy have their own rooms. I have to admit that I have had some serious anxiety about them being downstairs at night when my bedroom is upstairs. I have been worried I wont hear them if they need me or if anything happens. I put a baby monitor down there the first two night we were here, but on Sunday night I woke up in the middle of the night  hearing some sounds on there even though my children were fast asleep. In  my half-awake state I started freaking out and imagined the basement was haunted, ha ha. Finally Last night I pulled the baby monitor back out and realized that it must have been on the same channel as the neighbors bc I could actually hear every word she was saying to her daughter. I could definitely spy on them if I wanted, ha ha.  Now that I have the baby moniter figured out I am feeling better about having them downstairs bc I know I will be able to hear them.
Before we moved here, we sold a lot of our things as we prepared to move across the country. So we have had to buy lots of replacements as we have moved in here. We bought this gorgeous table that I am so excited about! The couple we bought it from actually built it and stained the top super dark, and painted the legs and chairs white. It is exactly what I wanted. We got it for a really good deal! We also found a really nice sectional at Big Lots for half the price of what they were asking at RC Willy and places like that. I am so excited to live in this new place. My mind is going crazy with ways to decorate it and I can’t wait to get started!

The kids are loving it here! I made the downstairs completely kid proof so they can go down there whenever they want. I think the new sense of freedom has been really good for them. They seem happier and more content. I was probably too uptight when we lived with Shelley and Alan bc I didn’t want them to break or ruin anything. I rarely let them out of my sight and I think it was hard for them to always have me telling them to “stay here” or “you can’t go up there without me.” We are just figuring out our new routine here, and I think it will be great house for us!
